'Lucky Beer' is the flagship lager for Australian small brewer 'The Lucky Drink Co.' p/l, and is sold in these rather handsome Buddha-shaped bottles. Sarah, a friend of mine, recently found the perfect use for them--gingerly drill a few ventilation holes in the back and DIY a candle in the bottom. Beautiful!

Female RPG characters in sensible armour

I've just come across a marvelous little blog celebrating female characters from RPG's, (and similar forms of entertainment) wearing reasonable get-ups. Over at tumblr, Women Fighters Wearing Reasonable Armor is put together by an anonymous (and genius) blogger. As a man with a moderate degree of concern for feminist issues, seeing some of these costumes is a really refreshing change from the 'loincloth, shoulder plate and pasties for the nips' approach taken by most art designers in the gaming industry today.

Computer-generated content in magazines, blogs and newspapers becoming the new norm

Steve Lohr over at The New York Times reports that a company called Narrative Science is finding success with their complex code, based on 10 years of research, which takes statistics from sports, financial markets and so on, and automatically generates news articles.

“In five years, a computer program will win a Pulitzer Prize" boasts Kris Hammond (pictured left), co-founder of Narrative Science, "and I’ll be damned if it’s not our technology.”

Weinstein Co. hires garbage director and hack writer to remake The Seven Samurai

I was already having a bad day, now this. Variety reports that Weinstein Co. have approached Scott Mann, directer of such masterpieces as 'The Tournament' and... um... The Tournament... to direct a remake of Akira Kurosawa's classic. Also, they've approched John Fusco of The Forbidden Kingdom (in)fame(y) to write it. I think there's a law whereby if you butcher a film this much, George Lucas is legally obliged to do the Blu-Ray release.

Oh, and while I'm down, it's not about Samurais and the delicate relationships between the warrior and peasant classes in feudal Japan anymore; it's set present day in Northern Thailand... for some reason.
