Sistine Chapel in post-it note form over three stories.

OK, so maybe I'm a little jealous. Redditor le_dom shares this pic of a pixel art war that turned into something spectacular.

Star Wars theme played on the Bagpipes while riding a Unicycle

Yes, everything about the title was correct.

It's Caturday!

Apologies to my regular readers for the lack of posts lately--I'm finishing my thesis, and it's quite a taxing process. In the mean time, it's caturday!

19 seconds of pure lulz

I don't know anything about the maker of this clip, felixsputnik, but the otherwise obscure YouTuber has changed this song for me forever. What has been heard, cannot be un-heard.

Canned food drive in San Antonio Mall, Texas

Thanks to Redditor LurkingSolrac for snapping and sharing this neat example of pixel art in San Antonio's North Star Mall.

Buddha-shaped beer bottle makes funky tea candle

'Lucky Beer' is the flagship lager for Australian small brewer 'The Lucky Drink Co.' p/l, and is sold in these rather handsome Buddha-shaped bottles. Sarah, a friend of mine, recently found the perfect use for them--gingerly drill a few ventilation holes in the back and DIY a candle in the bottom. Beautiful!

What happens when you strap a camera to a helicopter blade

It's only a 'keychain' camera and a RC helicopter, but the effect is quite magnificent. Just when you think 'ok, I get it', everything changes!

Female RPG characters in sensible armour

I've just come across a marvelous little blog celebrating female characters from RPG's, (and similar forms of entertainment) wearing reasonable get-ups. Over at tumblr, Women Fighters Wearing Reasonable Armor is put together by an anonymous (and genius) blogger. As a man with a moderate degree of concern for feminist issues, seeing some of these costumes is a really refreshing change from the 'loincloth, shoulder plate and pasties for the nips' approach taken by most art designers in the gaming industry today.

If you're not familiar with the threads (or lack thereof) typically given to female characters in RPGs, below is a fairly average example

Lucas' latest blu-ray release blarg: Alderaan shoots first

Redditor meanstreak914 shares this hilarious 'shoped gif. I must admit, I'd find it much funnier if, somewhere in the back of my mind, I weren't quietly fearful that we're giving George Lucas ideas.

Computer-generated content in magazines, blogs and newspapers becoming the new norm

Steve Lohr over at The New York Times reports that a company called Narrative Science is finding success with their complex code, based on 10 years of research, which takes statistics from sports, financial markets and so on, and automatically generates news articles.

“In five years, a computer program will win a Pulitzer Prize" boasts Kris Hammond (pictured left), co-founder of Narrative Science, "and I’ll be damned if it’s not our technology.”

Why, Gumby? Why?

Just in case the internet hadn't destroyed my childhood already, it gives me this. Some muppet decided to don a Gumby costume and rob (unsuccessfully) a San Diego 7-11, MSNBC reports.

Provocative Portal II socks

I can't say I'm a big fan of the Portal series, but these socks for sale over at Kotaku.com could convert any skeptic of the game.

Mortal Kombat friendship with a twist

Pardon the advertisement at the beginning. Now I come across heaps of stuff like this every day, but this short did make me giggle.

Weinstein Co. hires garbage director and hack writer to remake The Seven Samurai

I was already having a bad day, now this. Variety reports that Weinstein Co. have approached Scott Mann, directer of such masterpieces as 'The Tournament' and... um... The Tournament... to direct a remake of Akira Kurosawa's classic. Also, they've approched John Fusco of The Forbidden Kingdom (in)fame(y) to write it. I think there's a law whereby if you butcher a film this much, George Lucas is legally obliged to do the Blu-Ray release.

Oh, and while I'm down, it's not about Samurais and the delicate relationships between the warrior and peasant classes in feudal Japan anymore; it's set present day in Northern Thailand... for some reason.

Yes, those are business cards

The lucky staff at LEGO's facility in Slough, Berkshire, England have been privileged enough to get these dastardly clever 'business cards' made for them, their LEGO doppelgangers enscribed with their contact information. And, yes, I'm thinking it too, 'Where can I get one?" Unfortunately, it's a staff only affair. CVs may be sent to http://jobs.lego.com. Photos courtesy of the UK Telegraph.

EDIT: Credit for the discovery of these marvels must go to my wonderful girlfriend Sophie Maxwell, who brought them to my attention last night. I love that girl.
